Cynthia (CJ) is a self-taught artist who makes every attempt to capture her subject in a moment of honesty. Having studied and worked for many years as a professional photographer gives CJ an edge on her creativity. She has the uncanny ability to frame her subject in interesting and thought provoking ways. Now, with Photoshop and digital manipulation, the possibilities are endless. Rider spent her early life in a small town on the coast of California. Since those early days, she has visited and lived in many different states, experiencing the local flavors from each. In her work, she continues to embrace the integrity of middle-America through her depiction of authentic moments, moments of truth. Her portraits are filled with emotion, her landscapes capture the rugged natural beauty of the land and her book illustrations are poignant. Refusing to be restricted or stereotyped, she uses whatever medium best suits her subject. CJs goal is to lend a touch of meaning to the viewer that will evoke a strong emotional response. She also has a fascination with doors, windows and passageways, always trying to capture their sense of mystery and intrigue in her work. In addition, her love of the outdoors helps her to see and capture the vibrancy of native plants in the scenes that she portrays. Although her preferred approach is plein air painting, Rider does a significant amount of work in her home studio as well. When creating portraits, CJ explains that she attempts to capture the essence of the subject. She has been told many times that "the eyes are soulful", or "the expression is just right". Now living in Arizona, CJ has contributed to the local art community by donating several years as President of the Mesa Art League organizing fairs, meetings, shows and events for artists. She also assisted in forming the Superior Art League; and submitted a favored design for Superior, Arizona's annual Dia de Colores Festival. CJ is a juried member of the Arizona Art Alliance as well as being affiliated with several other local arts organizations and groups. In her giving spirit, CJ founded Budding Artist, a program to expose underprivileged children. The innovative program was operated for over 10 years through the Save The Family Foundation - Mesa and CJ is now retired from it. As a multi-faceted artist, CJ also writes melodious verse. She fuses romantic and earthly elements, in a manner that compliments her artwork and photography. Her works can be found in many different publications as well as in books of poetry. She has completed working on the creation and production of several books of poetry which will be accented by her illustrations and cover art. Through much hard work, CJ Rider has been a major figure in forming a publishing company and from that creative process, a poetry web site was born, "Emerging Poets" CJs latest publication, "Tapestries of the Heart" is a compilation of poems by highly rated poets. Rider has 15 poems as well as her illustrations and photos in this book. Her poem "Lifelong Friend" is the feature poem of this book. send an email to: CJ @RiderCreations.com rid Quote: It would be a mistake to ascribe this creative power to an inborn talent. In art, the genius creator is not just a gifted being, but a person who has succeeded in arranging for their appointed end, a complex of activities, of which the work is the outcome. The artist begins with a vision a creative operation requiring an effort. Creativity takes courage.
CJ has worked extensively as an arts instructor and product demonstration artist for Arizona Art Supply and Hobby Lobby stores. She now is doing her own independant study and working with limited number of Alzheimer and dementia patients through arts.
